CARIBBEAN KICKSTAND

OUR COMMUNITY HELPING EACH OTHER IN TIMES OF NEED

Landlubber Logistics received unsolicited community donations to help us feed those who were in dire financial need during the Covid-19 pandemic, and as we became aware of struggling community members, we procured and delivered groceries to them. We formalized this division of its operation and named it “Caribbean Kickstand.” 

Caribbean Kickstand helps anyone in need of groceries on St. John during times of economic collapse.  When business is interrupted, St. John residents can use Caribbean Kickstand to request a grocery box to sustain them while food stamps or unemployment benefits are still processing.

Caribbean Kickstand is to be used a few times by an individual until they can find a regular resource such as a new job, returned tourism, unemployment, food stamp or disability benefits, etc. It is not a continual free food source. Caribbean Kickstand is for groceries only, and excludes hot or to-go food. 

Still in its early days, Caribbean Kickstand is now in contact with many local food programs and volunteer efforts to optimize our effectiveness and efficiency.

How do I sign up for Caribbean Kickstand?

Inquiries may be made by phone, text, What’sApp, and email.

A short survey will be sent back to you to complete, and we will provide a list of additional resources that may be of assistance.  

We also accept referrals and/or inquiries on behalf of a vulnerable community member in need of assistance.

Please be clear about client needs.  We understand that asking for help is difficult.  This is fully confidential and we encourage those in need to inquire.

How does Caribbean Kickstand work?

Grocery delivery will be determined on a case by case basis.  

Once you submit an inquiry for a free grocery box and complete your survey, your inquiry will be placed in a grocery queue.  

After confirming that there is available funding, we will ask you for directions to the drop off location and a Google pin of the destination if possible.  

We will give you the soonest estimated time of arrival (ETA) at the time your order is processed, and this ETA will be updated when your goods are in transit.  

Should I clean the delivered items when they arrive?

We specialize in contact-free delivery in times of pandemic. Your goods can be delivered to your doorstep and you can clean them, or we can place a grocery box in your residence and clean your goods for you if you prefer.

Can I sign someone else up for a Caribbean Kickstand grocery box?

Anyone can contact us with concern for someone else’s well-being.  We will do our best to reach out to that person and offer our assistance.  

If you would like the person to be entirely anonymous, you can indicate this in your inquiry.  Fill out the questionnaire as “anonymous” with a general location.  The groceries will be delivered to you and you will be required to give the goods to the recipient.

How often can a person receive a Caribbean Kickstand grocery box?

This is based on need.  Caribbean Kickstand is meant to help someone while they transition from income loss to a permanent solution of aid or alternative income.  We recommend one or two grocery delivery requests per client.  This can be modified based on extenuating circumstances.  We recommend using all available resources in a time of need. We will send a resource list for further assistance as well. 

How do fees and payment work for Caribbean Kickstand?

There are no fees for Caribbean Kickstand.  All groceries are purchased with donations or donated from the community.  Some donations are used toward delivery expenses.

What if I need to cancel, or reschedule my delivery?

You can cancel your Caribbean Kickstand grocery need request any time before the purchase of your items.
